When Barack Obama was elected President, many white people had an existential crisis. What does it mean when a black man who's smarter, better-educated, good-looking, and has a happy family is now "Leader of the Free World?" They had to question their place in the false human hierarchy, and they were not going to give up "first place" without a fight. It used to be that though racism existed (and exists) it was socially unacceptable to be publicly racist. Upon Obama's election, the dogs were let loose. Their followers will seize on any excuse for their actions. They obscure, or so they think, the racism behind it.
