Whenever people complain about our country not having room for immigrants, I remind them of the Mariel Boatlift in 1980. 125,000 Cubans, many of which Castro considered Cuba's "trash," reached Florida during a six-month period. Florida Cubans sailed flotillas of their own boats essentially to gather Cubans. Somehow or other, despite the large numbers who arrived in such a condensed period of time, we managed to accommodate them all. I guess some immigrants are just more desirable than others, and if we want to make room, then we will find room. If we don't want to make room, then we find excuses.
