Where have you been? "The fact that we can vote...?" Have you been paying attention to the large number of states that are trying to make it NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE for people of color to vote? What good is the "right" to own property when white net worth is nearly EIGHT TIMES HIGHER than black net worth? What can we afford to buy? When we sell our property, even if it is located in a "good" neighborhood, appraisers and realtors undervalue our property by hundreds of thousands of dollars, robbing us of the income we deserve from its sale. Surely you know of black families who have had to "whiten" their homes, removing family pictures and other signs of black occupation? I'm questioning whether or not that is real progress.

We can go in and out the same door. Wow. Really? If I go in the same door as a white person to a B&B, a ski lodge, the First-class line at the airport, or an exclusive store, the equality ends at the door. I will still be assumed to be in the wrong place, and people will show their resentment that I'm there. I have heard people deliberately say, within my hearing," Nowhere is safe. They're everywhere now."

As for transportation, you can sit wherever you want, but why are we still the majority on public transit? While you can choose your seat, you will notice that white people can choose their own seat as well, and they choose to avoid sitting next to us.

Delusional? Delusional because we believe that the rights and privileges of life and citizenship should be shared equally and not at the whim of others who decide what rights we have and when we get them?

You, sadly, are the one who's deluded. Who would go where they're not wanted? If all the goodies are in one room, and I'm not in that room, then you'd better believe that I'm going to fight to get into that room. Having goodies begets more goodies.

I'm not downgrading the importance of HBCUs. It is to our advantage to go to places where the focus on education is for US. However, if I want the prestige of some other school, then I should be free to apply and to have the circumstances of my life, which generally don't include the economic privileges of white life, considered.
