While I found your article interesting, I couldn't agree with it. I can find NO compelling reason why any mentally healthy person of color would vote for Donald Trump.
You gave the example of blacks who have voted for "racist" whites in the past, discussing the failings of past Democratic presidential candidates. Democratic candidates for national office have always been on a slipper slope in the past--actually being more sympathetic to issues in the lives of people of color, while not appearing to be SO sympathetic that they turn off white voters. Given a choice between the Democratic and Republican candidate, that small display of racism was still not enough to convince us that a Republican candidate would be more advantageous. Clinton versus Trump? Come on.
After watching the Republicans diss President Obama, merely because he was black, for eight years, no self-respecting black person should (yes, I said SHOULD) have voted for any Republican. When those sycophantic hicks stood in lockstep for eight years, they not only disrespected Barack Obama, but they disrespected the soul of every black person in the country. Republicans are the ones who won't raise the minimum wage. Republicans are the ones dismantling Civil Rights and Voting Rights. Republicans are the ones who call Affirmative Action "reverse racism." Heck, Republicans are actively trying to disenfranchise us AT THE SAME TIME they claim to want our vote. If I can't get good pay, good housing, or fair treatment under the law, I know who's responsible.
Black women (few of whom vote for Trump) discuss among themselves that perhaps Trump is attractive to black men who themselves would like to be "powerful," (read "tyrant) or who were misogynistic in 2016 and who were again so in 2020. The economy only improves for people of color under Democratic administrations. I invite you to do the research. Just as white evangelicals who claim that Trump is a Christian are either liars or willingly deluding themselves, blacks who claim that Trump would make their lives better are either fooling themselves or in need of therapy.
A choice between Joe Biden and Donald Trump as to who would be better for people of color? Well, Trump asked "What have you got to lose?" If you didn't know the answer in 2016, then you darn sure should have known it in 2020.
And, despite having obvious intelligence and gifts, John McWhorter often has his head in the wrong space. Think twice before you take him seriously.
