"Woke," particularly as used by black folks, means to be aware of the racism and other dangers around you. Think back to Spike Lee's 1988 "School Daze." It's message, 35 years ago, was "Wake up." I'm proud to be awake, woke, or whatever else the right wants to call it. I'm not scared of them.
