Yep. We should allow NEITHER SIDE to tell us how we're "supposed" to sound. I speak/spoke "proper English" because it is what my parents taught me and what their parents taught them (and I'm nearly 70.) If it's any consolation, I have native Spanish-speaking friends who tell me that they also get disparaged for "trying to sound 'white.'" I was shocked. I thought it was only us.
