You have been with folks who perhaps dislike white people as a group, which, given our experience, is not surprising. They have made jokes about them. They have made disparaging remarks. They have not, however, been racist. People of color do not control American society. We do not have privilege, hold the reins of the economy, have the standing to influence white people's destiny, and so on. Therefore, we're not racist. Our humor, disparaging as it may be, has no material affect on their well being, but their privilege certainly has a material affect on us. Unpleasant? Maybe. Impolite? Maybe. Racist? No. Not in this world.
