You have GOT TO BE JOKING. Does "entitled" mean what "uppity" used to mean, i.e., expecting to be treated the same as everyone else?

I went into a restaurant WITH A GROUP OF WHITE PEOPLE. There were eight of us; seven old white people and old, black me. EVERY PERSON in that restaurant saw us come in. The room had one of those "everything stops for a second" moments, because I was the only face there that had any color other than pink.

I have told this story in one of my Medium essays. The waitress went around in her first circle taking coffee orders. I was sitting RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOST, and she skipped me! I had to call her attention to me. She did it the second time around for the main orders. I didn't allow her to do it the third time. I just piped in with what I would have. That waitress had three chances, and she failed each time.

I was most definitely NOT putting "skip me" vibes on, and every last soul in the place saw me walk in. The reason there are not endless discrimination lawsuits out there is because we don't have the time and we already know the result.

I'm glad that your mom was such a rebel.
