Even though Boyz In The Hood had a popular soundtrack, New Jack City was the first blockbuster Black movie to explode on Black radio and land a two-punch combination that knocked our asses out. The next movie on this list followed this model to even greater success.

You must be too young either to know of or to recall "Shaft" or "Superfly," black films of the early 70s with popular soundtracks. Isaac Hayes won an Oscar, a Grammy, and a Golden Globes Award for his "The Theme from Shaft." There are probably other old folks like me out there who can share other examples.
