You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din. I want the system dismantled AND I want Officer Potter to have gotten more time. Perhaps her trajectory ended with an accident, but it began with a traffic stop that was discretionary and unnecessary, a precipitating factor in too many black, male deaths. Two years? Sixteen months in custody and eight months in supervision? That doesn't do it for me.
Would she have reacted the same way if his white mother had been in the car with him? I doubt it. When Daunte's very skin caused him to be disrespected, and dead, not only do I want the person who chased him down to accept the consequences of her actions, but I want the larger society to recognize it too.
